History
The Gladstone Tennis Club dates back to 1943 when it was based on land now occupied by the Parnell District primary School.
In 1946 the club then moved to its existing site at Gladstone Park on the corner of Balfour and Gladstone Roads after the Auckland City Council granted it a lease over the land for use as tennis courts and facilities. The clubhouse was upgraded in 2000 when the existing clubhouse was demolished to make way for the modern facility that we now enjoy. In 2006 a newly elected committee set out to raise funds to replace the court surfaces and surrounding fences. After successfully raising the funds from many social events over the course of the year, and with the support of a number of sponsors and community trusts, the court resurfacing and new fencing were completed in May 2007. Members now enjoy a superior facility, the envy of many in the Auckland region and the club, in conjunction with the local primary school is making a positive contribution to the Parnell community that it serves. |
