President’s Report

1 July 2019

The past 2018/2019 season has been both interesting and challenging. It has seen the Club undergo a restructure of its coaching offering and refocused the Committee on capital projects and other matters that maintain and improvethe Club for the benefit of all members.

Our Club

The Club remains in a strong position and this is largely due to the diligent work of both the current and past committees, the Head Coach and his coaching team and other volunteers who happily contribute to Club activities through out the season. By way of their endeavours we have:

1. a very popular men's and ladies tennis fit sessions;
2. a solid representation at interclub;
3. a well populated Club night (weather allowing);
4. Saturday morning coaching for juniors;
5. new individual and family members joining through out the year;
6. new and existing sponsors happy to support our Club;
7. very good support for our Club Champs with solid fields in most of the categories; and
8. a dedicated and hard working coaching team providing group and individual lessons.

The Club is also in a very strong financial position and has funds to proceed with some exciting upgrades to the court facilities and Club house.

As a result we are able to hold the membership fees for the 2019/2020 year at the same level as the past 2 seasons. This makes us one of the best value Clubs in the area.

Club Championships are an important part of the calendar year for our Club. This years Championship provided some great matches and a very successful finals day. I would like to thank Martin Colenbrander and his team of helpers for that success.

This year we are holding our Wimbledon White event on Saturday 10 August and this promises to build on the previous years successes. I encourage all members to come along and enjoy the night.

Our Vision

The Committee has distilled its "5 year Vision" for Club into a short document and this has been sent out to all members for their interest. Highlights of this vision are:

1. to provide LED lighting for all 5 tennis courts to enhance tennis play in the early mornings and into the evenings;
2. to resurface Court 5 with a hard court surface to the same quality as centre court at the ASB Tennis Stadium – to provide members with an alternative surface to play and train on;
3. to upgrade the viewing area across the front of the upstairs of the Club rooms – this will involve replacing existing fixed windows with sliding window, a safety glass barrier and new seating – all to provide members and guests with an enhanced viewing experience over the tennis courts; and
4. to continue to upgrade our indoor and outdoor seating options for senior and junior members and visitors.

Our Head Coach

With Martin, we are very fortunate to have one of Auckland’s premier professional tennis coaches at our Club, attracting junior, intermediate and senior players to the Club and providing a range of individual and group coaching sessions. Martin also works behind the scenes on Club activities and has a genuine passion for the Club. His efforts in attracting and retaining sponsorship are fantastic. Martin also did a great job in organising the players and the weather for this year's Club Champs – which were a great success. I will call on shortly call on Martin to give his Coaches report.

Management Committee

We are very fortunate to have the support and assistance of a very dedicated, supportive and enthusiastic management committee over the last 12 months. Thank you to all of the Committee members for your great ideas and hardwork during the year – it is very much appreciated.

I would like to make special mention of the following long standing Committee members:

Andy Doole for his role as R&M co-ordinator and for his outstanding work in attracting and retaining key sponsors. And also for his wisdom with the occasional difficult issue.
Juliet Reynolds for her huge efforts in applying for charitable grants to assist with capital projects during the year.
Celia Ryan for her fantastic efforts managing the hiring of the Club to third parties and for securing the University of Auckland as a long term hire of our facilities.

Our Sponsors

I would like to extend my thanks to all our new and continuing sponsors, and other benefactors, for their continued support for our Club. Your generous contribution is greatly appreciated and I encourage all members to show their appreciation to our family of sponsors.

I will shortly call Andy Doole to announce two key sponsorship deals he has arranged for the Club.

Our Membership

The strength of our Club remains its members. They bring such a variety of skills, continually put forward new ideas and commit their time and energy.

The Committee's continuing aim is to grow our membership from 235 paid up members to 400 paid up members over the next 2 years. 400 members will provide the base for financially sustainability and an ability to create surpluses to build for the future. We encourage all members to assist with recruitment of new members as the new season begins in September 2019.

Club Finances

The Finance’s Report provides greater detail of our Club's financial position, which is very healthy when compared to other comparable Clubs in the Auckland regional area.

Communication

Communication between the Club, its membership and other organizations is vital. The website and Facebook pages that have been set up and kept up to date are invaluable tools.

The Club has a good level of communication and a number of fun social activities. The Club's website continues to evolve and provides a useful tool for members to be updated with the Club's activities and upcoming events.

We are looking to upgrade our Website in the next few months to improve this communication further.

Finally would like to thank the Committee, Head Coach, Club Members and our generous sponsors, for their support in making our Club the continuing success that it is and wish everyone a happy and healthy 2019 /2020 season.
