The Gladstone Tennis Club Committee is delighted to welcome a new Club President, longstanding member Antony Bowyer.
Former Acting President Andy Doole says that the Club is very fortunate to have Antony at the helm.
"Antony is a great fit for this role, and is already an active and enthusiastic member of the Club. His skillset will be hugely valuable to the Club and we thank him for offering his time and wish him all the best for the job ahead."
Antony first joined Gladstone in 1997 until 2003 when he left New Zealand for over a decade, joining tennis clubs in England, Singapore, Japan and Australia. He experienced other clubs on his return but chose Gladstone as his permanent tennis home due in part to its great base of enthusiastic and competitive players and its premium courts and facilities. He is now a regular participant at the Club throughout the week, including representing Gladstone in two top-performing Interclub teams.
In his non-tennis life Antony is the General Manager of Blackbird Finance, and with over 20 years in banking under his belt has a host of business skills that can greatly benefit Gladstone and its membership in the immediate and long term. He brings with him extensive experience of what other clubs do well (and not so well) and hopes to apply this broad knowledge to his new role.
“I have been very lucky to have had the opportunity to play tennis at Gladstone for a long period of time. Gladstone is very lucky to have such a great membership base that is supported by a fantastic Committee and coaches. A chance to join with this Committee and, hopefully, give some something back to the Club is something that I am very much looking forward to."
The GTC Committee is very grateful to Andy Doole who stepped into the role of Acting President over recent months, and who remains on the Committee.
We also welcome a new Committee member, Sam McKay, who in his short time at Gladstone has already etched his name on the Club Champs Honours Boards, and who also brings a wealth of marketing and digital knowledge to the Club. He joins other current Committee members Jeremy Skinner, Juliet Reynolds, Celia Ryan, Petrea Vela, Mary Helen Kelt and honorary member and Head Coach Martin Colenbrander.
