It is with great sadness that I must announce the sad passing of Peter Thomson, a Life Member of Gladstone Tennis Club, at the age of 94.
Peter joined GTC in 1950 and, along with his wife Jean, were founding members of the Club. Peter has held many positions within GTC committee and was fundamental in the early years in making the Club what it is today. He played interclub for GTC for many years and his strong serve and powerful play was to be feared. He was the backbone of the Presidents team for many years and encouraged all members to participate at the Club. Peter was passionate about tennis and his drive saw him become the President of Auckland Tennis. He was a true ‘club man’ and embodied what is valued for people that volunteer their time for something that they are passionate about………………….which is why his club jacket hangs proudly in our Clubhouse.
Peter’s family have posted the following obituary in Herald and as a Club we send our deepest condolences to them on the news of the sad passing of Peter.
